FAQ
A Journey Home Campus

Family homelessness in Gallatin Valley has grown at an unprecedented rate, with the number of families served by Family Promise increasing 4,725% over 20 years. Even after expanding transitional housing, adding innovative diversion programs, and growing from a staff of four to nearly forty, the need continues to outpace capacity. In 2024-2025, 1,019 families sought support—a 160% increase from the previous year—while 10–15 new families continue to call each week. With limited space and resources, many have had to be turned away, underscoring the urgent need for additional shelter and service capacity so no child goes without a safe place to call home.
In response to this increase in community need, we scaled housing services and developed innovative programs. However, despite these efforts, the current level of community needs remains unmet, underscoring the need for additional available space to provide transformative services to every child and family seeking assistance continues to increase.
What makes Family Promise unique in serving children and families experiencing homelessness?

Family Promise brings more than 20 years of specialized experience in addressing family homelessness, backed by a national network in 200+ communities. With a singular focus on children and their caregivers, we combine safety-centered practices, trauma-informed care, and rigorous background checks with highly personalized case management. Each family works closely with a dedicated case manager to set goals, secure employment, build financial stability, and access essential resources—ensuring they gain the tools and support needed for long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
The acquisition of A Journey Home strengthens and expands this work. Purpose-built for children and families, the campus provides safe, comfortable living spaces, bridge housing, and workforce housing options that create stability while families build rental histories, savings, and critical life skills. With communal areas, family-centered amenities, and a supportive environment dedicated to growth, A Journey Home will have a transformative, long-term impact on the families we serve.
How do you know families aren’t coming to Bozeman simply to receive services?
Although every child and family should have access to, and is deserving of, a safe place to sleep, families must live in the Gallatin Valley for at least 30 days to be eligible for Family Promise services.
How are you currently serving families and how will that change in the future?

Family Promise offers the following wrap-around services: Prevention/Diversion, Housing, and Stabilization. This campus allows the families that we serve to access educational opportunities, workshops, counseling, case management, and other support services that are vital in overcoming homelessness and achieving self-sufficiency. By consolidating these services within one campus, FPGV can streamline our operations and provide a seamless and coordinated approach to supporting children and their families.
This additional space has allowed us to add workforce housing to our family of services. The inclusion of workforce housing units within the campus is a crucial aspect of FPGV's ability to better serve their clients. Stable housing for two employees ensures continuity and expertise in our programs and services and will provide on-site supervision of A Journey Home. Moreover, the availability of workforce housing for client families helps address the ongoing challenge of affordable housing. By providing these units, FPGV supports families in accessing safe and affordable housing to lower income families.

By offering a comprehensive set of programs and services, FPGV directly addresses the challenges of homelessness, affordable housing, and access to essential resources faced by the community. These programs provide families with the tools, support, and opportunities they need to break the cycle of homelessness, achieve stability, and build a brighter future for themselves.
How is Family Promise funding this building?
Family Promise is approved for the full purchase amount through Opportunity Bank, with the down payment covered by a low-interest NeighborWorks loan, grants from the County and City of Bozeman, and philanthropic support. We still owe $3.5 million toward the project, which will be raised through a combination of grants and philanthropy.
How will the addition of this campus affect your operating budget?
Once the mortgage is paid off, A Journey Home is projected to produce a monthly income of $24,450 from transitional and workforce housing and office rentals. We anticipate that the addition of A Journey Home will add $134,000 per year to our operations budget.
