December 12-16: Day Center Supply Drive

Every year, we ask the community to help us stock our shelves with needed supplies to last the year. This allows us to spend less of our funds on supplies, and spend that money on families instead!

Want to help out? Our supply list can be found at the link below. Feel free to send to your networks, or get your church/community/school group together for a donation drive!

October 16-22: Family Promise Week

During Family Promise week, we took the opportunity to highlight the impact of our program on the community! For instance, did you know that Family Promise of Gallatin Valley utilizes 2,000 volunteers a year to assist with nightly shelter, home-cooked meals, and Day Center maintenance and upkeep? Our program would not be possible without our generous and passionate volunteers!

On October 17, 2016, Mayor Carson Taylor of Bozeman declared October 16-22 as Family Promise Week in Bozeman, MT! Thanks to Mayor Taylor for helping us honor our 10 Years of Service and 150 families served in the Gallatin Valley!

October 1: 10th Annual Cardboard Box City

Head on over to the 10th Annual Cardboard Box City page to view pictures, video, Cardboard Box City 2016 event updates, and more!

July-August 2016: Tools for School

For three years in a row, Family Promise has partnered with the Salvation Army to provide the Tools for School program, a school supply collection program in which community members can donate school supplies for kids who attend any Bozeman-area or Belgrade-area public school. For many families in our community living paycheck-to-paycheck, school supplies can be a financial burden and can result in children going to school without the proper tools to learn and excel in education.

Thanks to the businesses and congregations that participated in Tools for School and were designated as supply drop-off points:

Staples on 23rd (next to Albertsons)

Staples on 19th (next to Petsmart)

Office Depot on 19th (next to Olive Garden)

Bozeman United Methodist Church

Journey Church

St. James Episcopal Church

Grace Bible Church

Holy Rosary Catholic Church

June 16: Peets Hill/Burke Park Discovery Walk with GVLT

This summer, Family Promise has partnered with the Gallatin Valley Land Trust (GVLT) to create the Young Explorers Passport to Adventure, a passport booklet designed to help families with young children get outside exploring Bozeman’s trails while doing fun activities and learning about the great outdoors. Each trail includes a few simple activities to get families thinking creatively about how to have fun in the outdoors and explore their surroundings. Completing all of the activities means a new “achievement”. Kids can become “Lindley Learners” or “Peets Hill Pioneers”. Prizes such as free ice cream from Baskin Robbins, an REI water bottle, and a color-it-yourself backpack can be won by completing achievements.

June 16th was a perfect day for Family Promise staff to lead a group up and down Peets Hill, through the Sculpture Garden, down to Lindley Park, and finally to the Bozeman Public Library.

With the help of a staff member from GVLT, we led 4 groups (total 17 visitors- 8 kids and 9 adults) through two full activities…which meant free ice cream!

We had a ton of fun and can’t wait to do it again! A big thanks to GVLT for letting Family Promise lead a Discovery Walk, and for joining in on the fun!

May 3: Give Big Gallatin Valley

On May 3rd, Family Promise of Gallatin Valley participated in Give Big Gallatin Valley, a 24-hour day of giving for our community.  With your help, we raised over $2,000 to continue our mission of ending homelessness in the Gallatin Valley, one family at a time. Thanks to our supporters who gave on Give Big Day! We are so thankful for each and every one of your donations.

We thank Starky’s Authentic Americana restaurant for hosting our donor lounge on Give Big Day, and for their $100 donation to our cause! They were excellent hosts, and we are so thankful for their generosity and enthusiasm.

February 21: Paper Tigers

On February 21st, we partnered with the Early Childhood Community Council (ECCC) and St. James Episcopal Church to provide a FREE screening of the film documentary, Paper Tigers. We saw over 275 participants from multiple community groups and non-profits, students, parents, educators, and interested individuals. It was a great night!

Paper Tigers is an intimate look at a year in the life of the students of Lincoln High School, an alternative school that specializes in educating traumatized youth. Set in the rural town of Walla Walla, WA, the film examines the concept of Trauma Informed Communities – a movement that shows great promise in healing youth struggling with the dark legacy of the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study (ACES).

March 3: 10 Years of Service Kick-Off Breakfast

2016 marked 10 years in the Gallatin Valley!

On May 3rd, we set the breakfast table for 230 volunteers, donors, program founders, Board members, past guests, and other supporters as we welcomed Karen Olson, Family Promise’s original founder and President Ameritus. Karen, who was visiting from her hometown in Summit, New Jersey, gave a wonderful speech as our Keynote Speaker. Our thanks go to all who have helped make a difference in the lives of homeless families in our community since our beginning in 2006. Together, we can end homelessness, one family at a time.

A big thanks to everyone who helped make this event a success!
