Volunteer Spotlight: February

February Volunteer of the Month: Yvonne Hauwiller!

This month, our Volunteer Spotlight at Family Promise focuses on one of our most dedicated volunteers, Yvonne Hauwiller!

Yvonne is a retired Bozeman Public Schools Administrator and learned about Family Promise during our development process. Local clergy Roxanne Klingensmith and the Gallatin Valley Interfaith Association (GVIA) saw a need for a services in our community for local homeless families. This group, with Yvonne’s help, made Family Promise a reality in our community!

Yvonne became involved with her congregation, Holy Rosary Church. She has become a regular overnight host.

We are SO grateful for Yvonne’s dedication to our program and our mission. She is a true believer in our program and has supported us for nearly seven years!

Thank you, Yvonne, for your service. We are thankful for you! Now, let’s learn a little bit more about Yvonne!

Why do you volunteer?

I volunteer because I can! I like being an overnight host, as I have don’t have to go to work in the morning or organize a family’s needs. So, it’s easy for me!

What is your favorite part of volunteering for Family Promise?

It so important to see the strength and perseverance of the families as they struggle with re-building their lives. My observations and interactions with the families are most interesting and gratifying.

Do you have any favorite memories from your time serving Family Promise?

Not really! I like talking to people—whether it’s the families or my co-volunteers. It’s “catch-up” time every nine weeks.

Do you belong to a congregation or are you an unaffiliated volunteer?

I am affiliated with Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Do you have any kids and/or pets?
Sure, but my two “kids” are grown up and my cat is not so young any more either.

From looking at you, no one would guess that…..

I am rich and famous—JUST Kidding! [I don’t have an answer to this. It depends on the situation]

Favorite place to eat:
I like to eat at home or anywhere with friends.

What’s on your book shelf?

Lots of education, travel, and history books—my books, my late husband’s and some that the “kid’s” left behind. My all-time favorite book is: Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage. In reading and re-reading it, I have learned about profound courage and perseverance.

Who’s your hero?

Sir Earnest Shackleton

Thank you, Yvonne for continuing to make Family Promise a success! We are thankful for your time and energy!
