Overview
Family Promise of Gallatin Valley is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation in Montana.
We are funded through the generosity of concerned individuals, businesses, and organizations. Our financial needs are not as high as many other programs that work to help the homeless because of the gifts of time of the over 600 volunteers who are the very heart and soul of Family Promise.
However, each year we must raise approximately
$150,000 to operate the program. Your donations are deductible on your state and federal income tax; please consult your tax advisor for information specific to your situation.
Family Promise provides shelter as well as the opportunities and skills necessary to put a family back on their feet with an enhanced ability to effectively deal with life's challenges. This is accomplished through the efforts of our case workers, who are professional social workers. Your gifts will not only help Family Promise keep families together while getting them back on their feet, you benefit with your tax-deductible donation.
Financial Reporting & Governance
FPGV follows best practices to the best of our ability and is committed to transparency of operations as stewards of our generous benefactors' donations. All documents regarding our finances and governance are here. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Planned Giving
Planning for Long-Term Impact
By making a charitable gift you can directly support the mission of FPGV. It is hard for those who do not experience homelessness to truly understand the impact it can have on a family and on our community. We need to help our neighbors; your gift will make a difference.
There are a variety of ways available to make charitable gifts. In addition to gifts of money (gifts of cash are the most common way of giving), other common methods of planned giving include setting up a Donor-Advised Fund, making a bequest in your will, or giving appreciated assets.
Donor-Advised Funds
A Donor Advised Fund gives the donor the ability to set up a donation to qualified nonprofit organizations and have the funding managed by a third party who provides oversight and due diligence, and still allows the donor to maintain ultimate control over how and when the funds are granted to the recipient.
Appreciated Assets
Gifting appreciated assets (typically equities, or stocks) can provide a significant tax advantage. Your gift would provide you an income tax deduction equal to the current value of the asset, a higher value than your original cost. As long as the asset is classified as a long term capital gains property (held for at least 12 months), you also avoid paying capital gains taxes on the growth of the asset.
For example, if you gift a stock purchased for $5,000 that has appreciated to a value of $15,000, the value of your tax deduction would be $15,000. (If you sold the stock, $10,000 of appreciation could be subject to capital gains taxes). As a nonprofit foundation, FPGV is not subject to capital gains taxes and benefits from the full appreciated value of your gift.
Making a Bequest
You may specify distribution of your assets through your will. You should always work with your attorney to draft or change your will. Bequests to FPGV are not taxable as part of your estate.
There are many options and methods for making a bequest and you should choose the type that best suits your personal objectives. For example, a bequest could be a stated dollar amount, or it could be a specific property or asset. Your bequest could be immediate, or contingent upon non-survival of preferred beneficiaries (such as your spouse).
You can direct your bequest to be used for general needs, for families, housing, or other special interest in helping families.
Whatever method of giving you use, and whatever amount you choose to give, thank you for being a part of our community of support.
For further information about FPGV needs, or to discuss a specific bequest, contact Garry Spitzer, Board of Directors.
